Musco Sports Lighting is hiring a Product Electrical Engineer to join the Research and Development team. This person would assist with the design, prototype, testing, and documentation of Musco's lighting systems and related controls. A successful candidate will have a strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical aptitude as well as experience with various network and communications hardware including fiber, wireless, and TCP/IP switches and routers.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, test, and document lighting systems and related controls.
  • Develop and maintain part and assembly documentation for new and existing products in the areas of cabling, electrical components cabinets, and sports field related accessories.
  • Work with Musco purchasing and manufacturing departments as well as suppliers to develop cost effective designs that ensure compatibility with manufacturing processes.
  • Create product part detail drawings and assembly drawing using ACAD and Pro/E.
  • Create new and revise existing Musco part specifications, assembly drawings, bills of materials, product configurator tables, production documents, schematics, and other product documents.
  • Review proposed product design changes with multiple departments and manufacturing locations.
  • Interface with other departments and work with Engineering Services Coordinator to release products into production.
  • Perform electrical calculations for selecting and sizing electrical components and coordinating system components.
  • Support Project Managers, CLC staff, Warranty, and Field Services departments with product issues as needed.
  • Evaluate alternate components and materials.
  • Work closely with QA Engineering to approve product deviations.
  • Communicate with consultants and vendors on technical matters.
  • Communicate technical matters (verbally and in writing) with individuals within and outside of the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • A high level of attention to detail is required.
  • Very good electrical, electronic, and mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Very good organizational skills and the ability to move multiple projects forward concurrently are required.
  • Experience with various network and communications hardware including fiber, wireless, TCP/IP switches and routers is required.
  • Experience with communication protocols including RS485, TCP/IP and DMX is required.
  • Experience with theatrical lighting and sound is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Pro/E, Word, and Excel is preferred.
  • Experience with engineering document control processes, drawing systems, change notice systems, and multi-level BOMs is preferred.
  • Experience with injection molding, die-casting, machined parts, sheet metal parts, welding processes is preferred.
  • Experience with build-to-order product configuration processes is preferred.
  • Experience with single-phase and three-phase power systems is preferred.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical devices (breakers, switches, relays, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of UL, CE, CSA, NFPA and NEC certifications, declarations, standards and marks preferred.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
