Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as a representative of the Charles County Department of Health. The Community Health Outreach Worker I (CHOW) I will often be the first line of contact in the community and must be prepared to answer questions and provide general information on the services provided by the Department of Health. This position conducts community outreach to educate the public and promote adherence to current health practices, and individuals selected will be prepared to support the outreach efforts of all divisions of the Department of Health.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
