This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent upon funding and open until filled. The San Juan Islands Conservation District aims to inspire care for our natural environment. The Island Conservation Corps (ICC) is critical to our work. The ICC focuses on forest, near shore, and riparian zone restoration. The member will serve as part of the ICC. They will perform routine tasks such as forest thinning, noxious week removal, native planting, trail building, and more. They will also engage in more complex ecosystem management projects. We also offer the accredited Ecological Restoration Certificate in partnership with Western Washington University. Member Duties : The Ecology Technician serves as a part of a team to conserve and restore the diverse ecosystems of the San Juan Islands. They will restore and manage forests to improve health and decrease the fuel for forest fire; build and enhance habitats and nurse logs; replant native forest landscapes with a priority on drought tolerance; replant and repair riparian zones to improve filtration; collect data and monitor habitats using ArcGIS.
Program Benefits : Education award upon successful completion of service , Training , Childcare assistance if eligible , Health Coverage , Stipend , Monthly stipend amount: $1,780 .
