Regional Membership Officer

Location: Fully Remote (Central United States and Texas)

This position is designated as Fully Remote and is not expected to work from our World Headquarters (unless necessary for meetings/trainings, etc.), and travel is required. Must reside in IL or one of our Rotary approved states in this region - MN, WI, TX.

Overview

The Regional Membership Officer (RMO) is a vital member of the Membership Development team who is responsible for driving membership growth and retention in a defined geographic territory. They serve as the primary liaison to membership development volunteers, and in cooperation and collaboration with Rotary International directors and other senior and regional Rotary leaders, oversee the overall progress of membership goals and strategies for their assigned territory.


RMOs help guide, train, and manage zone, district, and club-level membership development volunteers with innovative ideas and resources to encourage Rotary and Rotaract club flexibility, foster member engagement, improve membership diversity, and strengthen the club experience. In addition, they create and support member acquisition opportunities via our prospective member programs, new club development, and additional events and projects focused on connecting with prospective members.


Your contribution will serve to expand our reach and enhance participant engagement, both strategic priorities of Rotary International.


You Will Have

  • College degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in member associations, volunteer management, development or a related field (i.e., sales/marketing, public relations, non-profit management); prior volunteer management or Rotary experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and database applications required, including advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong inter-personal skills and a professional demeanor, strong commitment to customer service and proven ability in oral and written communications, including public speaking and promotional writing.
  • Ability to interact with high-level international business leaders and volunteers.
  • Ability to travel and support in-person events.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, proactively schedule and manage time, and handle multiple tasks and projects in order to reach goals in a timely fashion.
  • Comfort with qualitative and quantitative evaluation.
  • Fluency in second language, a plus.

You Will Be Responsible For

Membership Reports and Analytics

  • Helping prepare, analyze, and disseminate frequent membership progress reports to volunteer leadership to help activate, monitor, and manage activities within assigned territory.
  • Consulting with district and zone leaders on strategic planning and regional membership initiatives based on analytics, trends, and volunteer reports.


Membership Development

  • Supporting district leadership in establishing new clubs and pathways to experience Rotary and Rotaract in new markets.
  • Conducting club assessments, member satisfaction surveys, or other research to assess member engagement/retention.
  • Assisting districts and clubs in management of prospective member programs to increase follow up and conversion rates.
  • Helping identify opportunities and organizing prospective member events and/or evaluating district service projects that could incorporate a prospective member component.
  • Ensuring members are aware of the benefits and existence of key Rotary membership resources and tools and connecting them with appropriate resources based on their challenges and goals.
  • Facilitating and presenting regularly on district and zone conference calls and/or meetings.


Communications & Marketing

  • Averaging 300 direct contacts (in person, virtual, telephone, e-mail, etc.) per month with Rotary volunteer leadership and prospective members – including but not limited to young professionals, former program participants and Rotaractors – to help strengthen club capacity and support member attraction and engagement opportunities.
  • Creating and delivering presentations that share best practices and strategies for membership development including member retention, engagement, new club development, diversifying membership, and training on membership tools.
  • Helping develop, deploy and evaluate the effectiveness of member acquisition marketing campaigns in assigned territory.
  • Gathering and sharing success stories and best practices to be featured in communications across Rotary channels.
  • Delivering membership information and materials to district and zone leaders in a comprehensive way to support decision making processes.


Travel

  • Traveling to/within assigned territory approximately 7-9 times per year (including weekends) to represent Rotary International at in-person professional meetings and events and help promote the importance of member attraction and engagement; facilitate learning sessions with district and zone leadership on how to utilize membership resources and enact membership strategies; connect with prospective members and carry out activities and events related to member acquisition.
