Duties:

  • Management of all PL Cafe’s Front and Back of House staff (counter servers, line/prep cooks, dishwashers)
  • Assisting in recruiting and onboarding of FOH and BOH staff as well as conducting orientations and and administering service/menu tests (FOH) at conclusion of training
  • Providing leadership and serving as a Customer Service ambassador for the Cafe
  • Training and oversight on all to-go, delivery orders received thru third party vendors (DoorDash, Caviar, UberEats, Seamless, etc) all streamlined via Deliverect and our Point of Sale system (Square)
  • Serving as point of contact for any guest-related issues and finding quick and effective resolutions
  • Managing and serving as lead contact re: last minute staffing issues- from contacting available staff to fill a shift to physically covering the shift if no staff is able
  • Developing efficient operations and procedures for Front and Back of House to help the Cafe run smoothly
  • Leading daily pre-shift “Stand Ups”- meetings to discuss service, specials and introduce new menu items
  • Coordination of breaks during peak times and insuring we are compliant with all NY labor laws
  • Maintaining all Dept of Health standards, insuring a letter grade “A” on all inspections
  • Scheduling deliveries of products in a timely manner, staffing appropriately and ensuring orders are received intact and complete. Following up with vendors as necessary for re-ships and returns
  • Monitoring all appliances (low-boy refrigerators, ice cream machine, ice maker, etc) and scheduling maintenance/repairs
  • Creating effective schedules and make adjustments as needed to accommodate the flow of business
  • Building (and seasonally updating) detailed opening and closing checklists and making sure staff adheres to them on a daily basis
  • Maintaining and updating deep cleaning project checklist to be performed weekly and updated periodically as needed
  • Creating seasonal and promotional signage, updating menus as needed
  • Training FOH staff on steps of service at counter, opening and closing duties
  • Management and oversight of the PL Cafe portion of the Pasta Louise website, adding/removing products based on availability, promotion of specials, etc.
  • Ability to monitor, order and maintain stock levels of paper/disposable goods in order to meet the demands of a hi-volume takeout counter
  • Oversight of end of day reporting, cash deposits, tip collection/allocation etc.
  • Managing bank deposits and ”change runs” on a weekly (or as-needed) basis
  • Contribution/participation in weekly Management meetings to discuss staffing, maintenance, operational matters and menu performance
  • Participating in review, disciplinary and promotion processes as they pertain to Cafe staff
  • Close contact with General and Assistant General Managers and Owners to escalate time-sensitive issues as needed

Requirements:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and serve as point of contact and resolution for guest-related issues
  • Bilingual English/Spanish spoken and written
  • Experience managing a kitchen team and BOH Staff
  • Experience navigating a Retail Food/Quick Service Environment
  • Experience with food/retail POS system (SQUARE preferred)
  • Experience with third party fulfillment services (UberEats, DoorDash, Seamless, etc)
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Google Workspace/Docs preferred
  • Deep understanding of NYC Department of Health protocols and requirements
  • Basic knowledge of general Human Resources-related policies and procedures
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to react quickly to issues as they occur and serving as point of contact during all scheduled staff hours at Cafe (and Restaurant, as needed)
  • Proven track record as a motivational leader and effective delegator of tasks
  • Experience with basic maintenance, ability to use tools to address small repairs around the Cafe and Restaurant
  • NYC Food Handlers Certificate Preferred

Financial Accountability:

The Cafe Manager is accountable for:

  • Maintaining a healthy average sale at locations in their purview. Training staff on upselling, coming up with contests and other tools to motivate staff to increase check averages.
  • Assisting GM with labor costs by cutting staff effectively and knowing the appropriate number of staff to have on shift, considering holidays and other special occasions.
