Together with commercial leadership, the Managing Director of Custom Solutions will develop and implement strategies for our custom solutions businesses in the Americas region, which includes custom-fabricated prosthetic sockets, total leg and arm solutions, custom prosthetic cosmeses and custom-fabricated braces. This position will be the process-owner responsible for the end-to-end custom-fabricated solutions processes from clinical support, customer onboarding to order fulfillment to deliver consistent customer experiences and best practice operational execution. The Managing Director of Custom Solutions will operate cross-functionally, collaborating and aligning with all custom solutions locations and teams, including sales and marketing, clinical services and digital solutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define and execute long-term operational plans and objectives for custom products and custom solutions for Össur Americas.
  • Prepare functional strategic business plans including objectives, strategies/assumptions, risk analysis, organization/resources/capital plan, processes and systems.
  • Develop and execute a clear vision and strategy for the custom solution offering and customer experience, fabrication and services aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives. Recommends structure and organization of teams to ensure fulfillment of objectives and to ensure flexibility of team in order to swiftly react to market conditions and opportunities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of engineers, designers, fabricators, and project managers to ensure the successful implementation of custom projects.
  • Keeps up-to-date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the custom solutions processes including, clinical support, product design, fabrication, quality control and after sales.
  • Maintain deep understanding of the business, financials, products/services, and the capability needed to drive growth of the custom product business.
  • Support the continued clinical education and effectiveness of Össur Sales Representatives to support clinical pull-through of the entire product portfolio.
  • Manages subordinate managers to ensure that manufacturing is timely and cost effective.
  • Ensures standards for product quality, equipment, and operator performance are maintained and that cost-effective technology is used to maximize production.
  • Recruit, train, manage, monitor and motivate teams to successful execution of departmental goals established in the annual balanced scorecard.
  • Ensures fixed assets are preserved. Initiates recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on operating costs within functional areas. Alerts management of cost and labor over run.
  • Makes recommendations and implements solutions to problems related. All employees must be aware, have knowledge and shall have received general training in Quality requirements of Össur. Training takes place in the Onboarding process and in New Employee Orientation. More specific Quality training is job specific.
  • Exercises good use of company funds and property within the set guidelines.
  • Maintains an honest and professional attitude as the company’s representative at all times.
  • Contributes to a safe working environment by maintaining own workspace and reporting any potential hazards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field (advanced degree is preferred).
  • 10-15 years experience in operations management, preferably in the medical device industry or custom manufacturing.
  • Work experience working in a central fabrication facility is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of custom fabrication processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully managing cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies and continuous improvement principles.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Proficiency in using operational software and tools to manage and analyze data.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance in the medical device industry.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft package.
  • Some travel required between Össur locations, for internal meetings and alignment.


The US base salary range for this full-time position is up to $225,000 bonus benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
