ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

The investment operations analyst will be a member of an Investment office that manages RWJF’S endowment to grow its purchasing power and provide stable resources for grantmaking. The Foundation’s Investment office maintains a fairly flat organizational structure of approximately 18 staff members, managing a broadly diversified portfolio, including public and private equities, hedge funds, and credit and fixed income. The analyst will be a member of the Investment Operations team responsible for supporting investment activity and ensuring operational efficiency. The position is part of an analyst program and is a three-year term position.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Management and Analysis

  • Primary responsibility for maintaining databases/systems used to track quantitative and qualitative portfolio information and investment documents.
  • Analyze investment data to provide information and insights on performance and operational metrics to support investment decision making.
  • Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of investment management fees.
  • Support the design, organization, and compilation of reports and presentations for the Investment Committee.
  • Analyze investment data and provide ad hoc information to Investment and Accounting staff, auditors, rating agencies, and others.


Reporting

  • Assist in preparing, analyzing, and distributing investment operations reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including cash flow projections, valuations, performance, asset allocation, and pipeline.
  • Complete compliance and regulatory filings (U.S. Department of Treasury, SEC).
  • Working with Accounting unit, support monthly accounting close by validating valuations and annual audit process by providing review, analysis, and update of audit deliverables.


Investment Transaction Activity

  • Serve as backup for daily operational tasks, including processing and reconciling transactions, capital calls, capital statements, and invoices.
  • Initiate new account opening and participate in onboarding process for new investments.
  • In collaboration with the Law unit, support the preparation of redemption letters/forms and follow the process to completion, which includes confirming wire instructions and tracking the incoming proceeds.
  • Identify, research, and communicate discrepancies or issues arising from daily operations; workflow and escalate, or recommend solutions to senior members of the investment operations team.


Communications

  • Serve as secondary point of contact with investment managers, administrators, and custodian bank, reviewing daily flow of email and responding to questions and requests for wire confirmations, certifications, tax, and other information.


Business Continuity and Operational Improvement

  • Cross-train and provide back-up support across mission-critical functions.
  • Collaborate with Investment Operations staff and IT to oversee document management and record retention.
  • Support the ongoing development, updating, and testing of Investment Operations’ documentation of standard operating procedures.
  • Recommend opportunities for process and/or technology solutions to enhance automation and efficiencies in Investment Operations functions, improve data controls, data integrity, and reconciliations.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to the Foundation’s vision, values, and Guiding Principles.
  • Experience working in and fostering an inclusive environment, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and working effectively with persons from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • One or more years of experience in a financial services firm, accounting, or investment operations role at an endowment, foundation, custodian bank or similar role with knowledge of business and investment landscape.
  • Strong analytical, critical analysis/reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The ability to identify key problems and suggest solutions is essential.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other tools to create financial models/analysis is necessary. Ability to learn research and information management systems for investment monitoring and reporting.
  • Able to work and think independently and in teams with confidence.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The analyst will perform job duties in a typical business office environment. Specific physical abilities required by this job include operating basic office equipment. Will be required to attend meetings, potentially both in person and off-site via phone or videoconference. This position is assigned to our Princeton, N.J. headquarters offices with the ability to work out of RWJF’s NYC and Princeton, N.J., offices per Foundation Hybrid: Flexible Purpose operating model.


As of January 1, 2023, the Foundation has implemented a Hybrid: Flexible Purpose operating model. All RWJF employees are required to come into Foundation offices during the year for purposes related to their position such as critical tasks (e.g., building operations, grantee meetings), organizational events (e.g., training and development), and internally focused team activities. All RWJF offices remain open for all Foundation employees for focused work, optional organizational activities, and connecting with colleagues informally as needed for individual purposes.


SALARY
