DEPARTMENT SUMMARY - Philanthropic Partnerships Department

Led by the Vice President, Philanthropic Partnerships, the Philanthropic Partnerships team at ClimateWorks leads fundraising for the organization and supports efforts to generate funder interest in climate mitigation generally. The Philanthropic Partnerships team works to build strategic relationships with key funders in climate mitigation to support the top climate solutions and introduces new funders to opportunities in climate philanthropy. The team works closely with ClimateWorks Executive, Finance, and Programs teams, the Climate Leadership Initiative, and regional climate foundations.

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Philanthropic Partnerships (Senior Manager) will be responsible for managing the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of donors for a specified portfolio of programs and support the cultivation of new donors to ClimateWorks. The Senior Manager will possess strong frontline fundraising experience and their portfolio will focus on programs that are developing new strategies, emerging/new areas of work, and building a new base of donors to support specific programs. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for implementing individualized strategies to qualify and cultivate new donors to ClimateWorks. This position reports to the Director, Philanthropic Partnerships and will collaborate with colleagues across ClimateWorks and external partners to support the Philanthropic Partnerships team in meeting revenue targets to increase and expand ClimateWorks’ impact. The Senior Manager will be resourceful and demonstrate initiative to help advance the Department and ClimateWorks’ goals.

Essential Tasks

Portfolio Management: The Senior Manager will work with a specified portfolio of programs and lead all donor related activities for the portfolio. This position will develop and lead customized engagement strategies that support and deepen existing donor relationships and help to identify and assess new opportunities to support expanding the number of donors for programs. To support this effort, the Senior Manager will develop and implement annual fundraising plans to track and plan donor activities to support their portfolio. The Senior Manager will partner closely with program leads to execute donor activities and will develop in-depth knowledge of the program content within their portfolio to contribute to program strategies that will support reaching new donors and supporting revenue goals.

Donor Deliverables: The Senior Manager will serve as the project manager for all donor-related materials for their portfolio. They will lead the process to design, prepare, and submit compelling concept notes, proposals, reports, and written materials that support donor deliverables and activities. They will work closely with program staff and colleagues at ClimateWorks to ensure that all donor materials are high-quality and support retaining and increasing support from donors.

Prospective Donor Cultivation: The Senior Manager will support activities to increase and diversify the revenue base from new donors to ClimateWorks. They will work closely with the VP, Philanthropic Partnerships, Director, Philanthropic Partnerships, and Associate Director, Donor Communications to implement individualized strategies to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with new donors and support maintaining a strong pipeline of new prospective donors.

Collaboration and Coordination: The Senior Manager will lead internal coordination across ClimateWorks’ departments (Programs, Finance, Strategy, Learning and Impact) on donor deliverables and activities. They will work closely with the Philanthropic Partnerships Operations team to ensure that data and information related to donors is properly entered, updated, and maintained in Salesforce. The Senior Manager will coordinate and support internal meetings and information to support donor activity in their portfolio. They will work closely with Philanthropic Partnerships team colleagues and contribute to the growth and development of the team.

Required Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience in a fast-paced development/frontline fundraising role.
  • Demonstrated success in creating and implementing donor engagement strategies to support the full life cycle of donor relationships, with an emphasis on cultivating new donor relationships.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of donors and supporting the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to secure funding and deepen relationships with donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new and creative approaches to qualify and cultivate new prospective donors.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information and collaborate across teams to produce high-quality and compelling proposals, reports, concept notes, and other materials to meet deadline-driven deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to interact effectively with donors, executive team, management, and colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong critical thinking, research, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, as well as an understanding of donor confidentiality.
  • Excellent project management skills with strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize working on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Proven experience using CRM (customer relationship management) databases to track/record development activities.
  • Willingness to take initiative, problem-solve, and work cross-functionally with colleagues and across departments to support short-term and long-term Development and organizational goals.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently (both virtually and in-person) with minimal supervision.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience/knowledge of climate/environmental issues.
  • Experience with Salesforce.

COMPENSATION

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential applied based on location).

Salary Range: $120,000 to $140,000 annually

LOCATION

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This position is classified as US Flexible. Exceptional candidates can work from the SF office or from other locations, geographic differential applied to compensation based on local cost of labor.
