Staff Position Description

Position Title: Career Center Services Coordinator Department: Career Center

Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: Director of the Career Center

  • Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday – Friday
  • College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. However, due to the nature of responsibility to the student body, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Non-exempt employees will normally work 8 hours per day. Overtime (any hours more than 40 per week) for non-exempt employees is required to be approved, in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Summary Of This Position

The Career Center Services Coordinator in the Career Center is responsible for serving as the primary office presence during regular operating hours, connecting students, staff, faculty, and outside partners to appropriate resources. Duties include managing all social media accounts for the Career Center team, fielding questions, promoting & organizing events, and supervising student support staff. The Career Center Services Coordinator in the Career Center is a public-facing role that requires a high degree of interpersonal communication skills and a willingness to appear as a spokesperson for the Career Center and its services to students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.

Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable)

Education Required To Ensure Success In This Position

  • Associate degree in Psychology, Marketing, Communications, English, Business Management, Event Management, Web Design, Graphic Design, or a related field, required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Required To Ensure Success In This Position

  • Prior experience working in a public-facing (in-person) customer service role preferred.

Special Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

  • Experience in copywriting, proofreading, and editing
  • Ability to compile and deliver creative content (text, image, and video)
  • Ability to engage audiences with best practices in communications and branding; must stay up to date with modern technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and applications such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with best practices in professional communications as related to communication with higher education personnel, students, and industry professionals
  • Familiarity with web design and content management, OR desire to learn
  • Familiarity with basic digital photography and editing, OR desire to learn
  • Willingness to appear on camera and in content promoting the Career Center’s services and activities

License, Certification, Or Registration Necessary

  • None required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
  • May be required to lift/move up to 10 pounds (4.3 kilograms).
  • Able to walk, sit, stand, and handle objects for intervals of time.

Environmental Conditions

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors, students, staff and faculty

Ability To Operate The Following Vehicles Or Equipment

  • Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Standard office equipment; computer, phone, etc.
  • Exceptional in social media platforming and familiarity with social media applications and their respective operations, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Familiarity with Hootsuite, MailChimp, Canva, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard camera and photography equipment is preferred.

Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically ~7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities):

  • Opens and closes Career Center office, maintains office presence, and staffs the Career Center during operational hours.
  • Directs students, faculty, staff, and external partners to appropriate resources or personnel, based on individual needs.
  • Assists students in scheduling appointments with the Career Center staff.
  • Creates promotions and content, including video content, to publicize Career Center events, services, and developments in career education.
  • Writes event descriptions to be posted in in career software platform, in the daily campus newsletter, the website, social media platforms, and on the Maryville College app.
  • Assists on- and off-campus employers in posting jobs, internships, observational experiences, and volunteer opportunities in career software platform.
  • Answers general correspondence via email, phone, and on social media.
  • Executes Career Center events and assists in the planning of all Career Center programming, including the planning of employer visits to campus.
  • Supervises student worker shifts and monitors completion of daily tasks and productivity

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.
