You can hear our CEO, Johannes Ziegler, discuss our company’s values and future!

How you’ll make an impact:

MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS), our online private high school using our virtual curriculum from www.miaprep.com, was formed in August 2022, and accredited as an online private high school for grades 9-12 in June 2023. Our ability to work with the curriculum development team, as well as the software development team, provides a unique opportunity to create a superior learning experience for students.

It’s an exciting time to join MOHS - the first year’s cohort consisted of 80 students, and the second year consisted of 320! Miaplaza’s leadership intends to maintain a high year-over-year growth rate for the foreseeable future with the goal of reaching more than 10,000 students within the next 5-10 years.

We are currently seeking a passionate and resourceful Academic Counselor who will serve an integral role in our continued growth by monitoring students’ academic progress, managing academic interventions, developing individualized plans to help students reach their goals, and acting as the point of contact for scheduling, onboarding, transcripts, and academic advising. The academic counseling team also closely collaborates with school leadership to develop and revise academic policies in accordance with student needs. This individual will also have a gift for building rapport with students virtually and will contribute positively to our school community and culture.

What you’ll do:

  • Student Academic Planning: Collaborate with parents and students to create tailored academic plans, including reviewing credit requirements and facilitating credit transfer requests.
  • New Enrollee Onboarding: Ensure new students have all necessary tools and education to begin successfully on day one.
  • Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for parents, students, and teachers, providing updates about course progress, grades, and areas of academic strength and struggle.
  • Record Management: Maintain secure and accurate student records, and develop or improve systems for tracking student progress.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize student data to provide up-to-date information, recommend changes in processes, and monitor academic performance to ensure students are on track toward graduation.
  • Postsecondary Guidance: Provide guidance and resources to promote and encourage plans for college, trade school, military, working abroad, and other pathways.
  • Accreditation Support: Support our WASC accreditation efforts by completing necessary documentation and facilitating regular visits and reviews.
  • Compliance and Coordination: Work closely with the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction and School Director to maintain compliance with California A-G requirements and NCAA eligibility.
  • Alumni Tracking: Collect education and career data of alumni to evaluate school effectiveness and recommend adjustments.
  • Course Catalog Management: Assist in the upkeep of a course catalog as courses become available or updated.
  • Graduation Planning: Collaborate with other academic counselors to plan and facilitate virtual graduation ceremonies twice a year.

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising or counseling.
  • Strong communication skills with various stakeholders including parents, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Experience managing tasks that require a high level of accuracy, privacy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in dynamic roles where you ‘wore a lot of hats’
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, with the ability to use formulas and scripts being a plus.

What makes you stand out:

  • Experience working in a virtual school setting.
  • A certification in school counseling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A high degree of ownership and initiative that you’ll use to push our school toward future growth and student success.
  • Your unique talents! Your background might give you a unique perspective and set of skills not listed here but may still be very valuable in this role. If you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, we still strongly encourage you to apply.

What you’ll love about working at Miaplaza:

  • You’ll be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to innovative education solutions for children who learn in diverse ways.
  • Our 100% remote team can work from any productive location within or outside the U.S. (no travel required!)
  • We promote flexibility and encourage employees to shape their work environments and schedules around their lives!

Schedule:

  • MOHS Academic Counselors are expected to have 30-40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis. This range of hours is designed to offer flexibility in your schedule, and there is ample work available! We consider anything over 30 hours a week to be full-time, so you would be eligible for all of our benefits!
  • You will be responsible for setting your own schedule, ensuring that your general availability aligns with the needs of the families we serve. You will be expected to have daily meetings and regular contact with students. Generally we operate during normal business hours, but you have a great deal of flexibility in the hours that you’ll work every day!
