NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components used in the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. NWI Precision’s 120,000 sq. ft. facility is located at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto. Our dedicated team prides themselves on delivering the highest quality products, to specifications and on time. NWI Precision is currently seeking an experienced Team Leader, Quality Engineering.


The Quality Engineering Lead mentors and supervises a team of Quality Engineers. About 50% of time will be spent on supervisory-related tasks and approximately 50% as a hands-on Quality Engineer. The objective of the role is to providing guidance to team members, exhibit leadership and assist in achieving Quality Engineering deliverables including new product introduction. As required, this role will also provide functional representation with support from the team and at times from senior Quality leadership.


Lead Responsibility:

  • Mentor and supervise a team of Quality Engineers handling various aero-engine customers or similar commercial accounts.
  • Within the larger Quality team, provide function leadership collaboratively, in conjunction with QMS and Inspection leaders.
  • Participate in strategic planning, continuous improvement and functional effectiveness activity with Director of Quality.
  • Work with leadership in recommending work-load allocation, addressing business needs and continuous employee development/engagement.
  • Represent team in various reviews as needed, such as NPI, customer product reviews, cross-functional RRCAs and relevant management meetings.
  • Manage priorities, vacation and work-from-home schedules and ensure team members, particularly new individuals, are mentored and supported.
  • Develop personal credibility, in time, across the organization as the focal for Quality Engineering and maintain functional effectiveness with team’s support.
  • Lead relevant customer or internal issues and provide mentoring and direction to the team. Provide timely escalation and visibility to leadership as needed.


Quality Engineering:

  • Prepare, implement and maintain quality plans for production processes for new and existing products, following APQP or similar framework.
  • Work in conjunction with Engineering and Operations to ensure that required quality controls are implemented and followed.
  • Manage First Article Inspection Reporting (FAIR) processes, including submissions to customers and maintain change control verification.
  • Implement methods to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products and production equipment.
  • Collect data and analyze failures, conduct RCA and implement corrective and preventive actions to respond to existing and potential operational issues.
  • Promote quality awareness throughout the organization and mentor other members of the quality team. Responsible for continuous improvement activity.
  • Support the qualification and auditing of new and existing vendors. Improve quality processes and procedure and assist with audit CARs.
  • Create and maintain company quality documentation such as quality standards and QA related reports. Lead training sessions in support of those standards.
  • Assist with the management of the AS9100 Quality Management System, including conducting training and documentation reviews and audits.
  • Initiate and review non-conformance reports (NCRs).Ensure that NCR’s are completed correctly and that corrective actions have been assigned to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead MRB teams to disposition with cross-functional input, submit non-conforming requests to customers and work with Engineering/Customer on NCR dispositions.
  • Assist senior leaders with KPI tracking and improvements. Support customer visits to NWI for product or process reviews.


Education:

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • ASQ certifications such as CQE, CQM, CQA preferred.


Qualification:

  • Meet the registration requirements of the Controlled Goods Program.
  • Able to work in Canada, Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Ability to travel to US (Once on a while) preferred.


Experience Knowledge:

  • Minimum 8 years work experience in highly regulated quality environment.
  • Experience in aerospace or nuclear settings preferred; some supervisory experience ideal.
  • Understanding of Operations/Customer Quality and RCCA/8D corrective action process required.
  • Strong knowledge of FAI, PPAP, APQP, FMEA etc. or Nuclear methodologies.
  • Familiarity with AS 9100 / TS 16949 / N299 quality system requirements.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office – World, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience and relevant certification in Lean and Six Sigma a plus.
  • Exposure to Machining, Continuous Improvement, Cross-Functional leadership and ERP an asset.
