Wishing you well

[edit]

I definitely remember when you were active. I appreciate the contributions you made here, wish that you would return, but respect your decision. I wish you well. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:21, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a Article listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Creating a Article. Since you had some involvement with the Creating a Article redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. John Vandenberg (chat) 11:34, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've added you to the page above because of how much you've done for us and because you've retired. It's intended to memorialize your service to this project, and I agree: This place is getting more hostile by the day, and it's unfortunate because we even had one hell of a hard worker just walk out on us for the exact same reason. Can't we all just get along?

Anyway, if you don't want to be on this list, just remove yourself and use an edit summary e.g. "I do not wish to be on this list; please keep me off". That way if other editors come looking to put you on the list after you've been taken off, they'll see that edit summary and decide not to add you. Of course, if you do decide to come back, then you'll still have to take yourself off the list anyway. ;)

God bless, LazyBastardGuy 02:26, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

LazyBastardGuy: Alpha was already two times on that list and he wanted to be removed, see [1]. Maybe simply commenting him out with an HTML notice? mabdul 14:51, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ATTENTION: Alpha Quadrant has already been added to the list and has kindly asked to be removed before. If you came here looking to add this user, please refrain as they have requested not to be added in the past. Thank you.

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard.

We have a backlog of cases there which need volunteer attention. If you have time available, please take one or more of these cases.

If you do not intend to take cases or help with the administration of DRN on a regular basis, or if you do not wish to receive further notices of this nature, please remove your username from the volunteer list. If you later decide to resume activities at DRN you may relist your name at that time.

I just wanted to drop by and say you are very much missed. I hope you return to regular editing. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:28, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Hammersoft, I do miss it here. Looking back, I learned much while here on the project both from you and others. Learning copyright law from you for instance. Heh, I didn't take that too well at the time, but more and more I've grown to appreciate how helpful it has been both while I was on the project and even in life outside of the project. In many ways, the positive aspects did outweigh the negative. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time to devote work on the project as I once did. Though, as you can see, I'm not completely gone...receiving a CSD notice certainly will draw me out haha. Someday I will be back to regular editing, this I promise. Thanks for stopping by with the note. Best wishes, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 05:13, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah we didn't hit it off well at the start. But, one of the things I always appreciated about you is that you kept an open mind and were willing to consider other alternatives, even if you initially radically disagreed with them. That is a rare thing around these parts. I look forward to your return and hope all is well in your life. --Hammersoft (talk) 11:25, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed at DRN

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are signed up as a volunteer at the Dispute Resolution Noticeboard. We have a number of pending requests which need a volunteer to address them. Unless you are an inexperienced volunteer who is currently just watching DRN to learn our processes, please take a case. If you do not see yourself taking cases in the foreseeable future, please remove yourself from the volunteer list so that we can have a better idea of the size of our pool of volunteers; if you do see yourself taking cases, please watchlist the DRN page and keep an eye out to see if there are cases which are ready for a volunteer. We have recently had to refuse a number of cases because they were listed for days with no volunteer willing to take them, despite there being almost 150 volunteers listed on the volunteer page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on Conan the Conqueror (film) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DRN help needed and volunteer roll call

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.

First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.

Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.

Request on 20:25:31, 7 November 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by Gm2016

[edit]

Hey Alpha Quadrant, I noticed you rejected my "Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions" submission because it read as an advertisement and did not have third party sources. First, thank you for your advice, but I'm wondering if you can give me more tips for how to revise this submission. I don't reference the Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions website more than once and reference sources such as McClatchy, Associated Press, Yale, Morning Consult, WMUR and Politico which are reputable. How can this draft be improved? Thank you in advance for your help.

Gm2016 (talk) 20:25, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article primarily has two issues that need to be addressed:
  1. The article needs to establish that this organization warrants a standalone article. Specifically, is this organization covered sufficiently in reputable third party sources (books, newspaper articles, academic journals, online news articles, etc. I think this subject very much does have that potential. At the very least, the topic warrants a section in an existing article. A big problem is existing references; for instance E&E/Greenwire. Any online source with "wire" in the name is almost always paid news (first party sources). The fact that these sources are also behind a paywall also reduces our ability to verify information stated in the article. Your best reference is very much the Huffington Post news article, we are looking for more coverage like THAT (see Wikipedia:In Depth Coverage). The news article exists because the organization exists. They are giving us detailed information on the organization, the news source wasn't paid to make the news article, and the organization isn't just a passing mention. In contrast, the Associated Press news article doesn't contribute to establishing this organization's notability. The biggest reason being the fact that this article is a passing reference (the primary focus of the news article is Kelly Ayotte and Clean Energy). If we can get 4-5 more news articles like the Huffington Post article, then we will have a very solid base for establishing this organization's notability.
  2. The article also needs to be written in a [WP:NPOV|neutral point of view]]. This is perhaps one of the most difficult skills to learn about writing Wikipedia articles because of the fact that it is so different from writing anywhere else. To write in neutral point of view you want to present the facts, do so in a manner that is neither positive nor negative, and avoid any language that would promote the subject. Take the perspective of a historian writing about this organization 1,000 years from now. What you're doing is documenting the subject so that others may learn about the subject. For example, right now in the "About" section of the article you have:

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) was founded in 2013 to promote clean energy solutions. As an organization, CRES does not favor one form of clean energy over another, but aims to engage lawmakers across the United states in a discussion about clean energy policies that address America’s 21st century economic, environmental and national security needs.

Consider possibly rewording it to something along these lines:

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) is an American non-profit advocacy group that that lobbies for the expansion of the clean energy industry in the United States. CRES was founded in 2013 and has lobbied for legislation such as <Expansion here>.

Both sentences say about the same thing, but the latter strips out the verbiage that would make it read like an advertisement (Example: "promotes solutions", "aims to engage", and "address needs"). I hope this has been helpful for you. If you have any further questions, then I would be happy to assist. Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 23:18, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Flag

[edit]

Hi, Alpha Quadrant.
I've noticed that you are an AfC reviewer but don't yet have the New Page Reviewer flag. Would you please consider heading over to PERM and requesting it? (check the flag requirements HERE)
As part of a larger plan to increase cooperation between New Page Patrol and Articles for creation, we are trying to get as many of the active AfC reviewers as possible under the NPR user flag (per this discussion). Unlike the AfC request list, the NPR flag carries no obligation to review new articles, so I'm not asking you to help out at New Page Patrol if you don't want to, just to request the flag. Of course, if it is something you would be interested in, you can have a look at the NPP tutorial. Please mention that you are an active AfC reviewer in your application.
Cheers and nice waterfall by the way, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 06:13, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

[edit]

Hi Alpha Quadrant, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Its hard to believe that this is coming up on 10 years in a few weeks. Gerda Arendt thanks for still doing this every year. Things certainly has changed quite a bit since I was highly active here. Feels like a lifetime ago now.
Hammersoft, I don't know if you still stalk this page after all this time, but thanks again for mentoring me when I first joined the project. Back in 2010 when I started on this project I was 14 years old. Help from you and others helped me grow up and mature quite a bit. I spent a lot of my time here and I really do look back on the time quite fondly. Its a real shame that priorities of adult life heavily compete with being here on the project. Between family and career the time for Wikipedia really is quite nonexistent. Most days Wikipedia doesn't even come to mind. I really hope to find some time again someday to come back. Best wishes to you both. Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 10:59, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ten years ago, you were found precious. That's what you are, always. You are right, here comes ten, planned as the last. A tag has been placed on Category:Software companies based in North Dakota indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 21:06, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
