I'm not sure on this. I asked for a second opinion, and AFD was agreed as the best option here. I'll withdraw the nom if I am misunderstanding the article, which is completely possible.
It says he plays for his "local club", and it seems like this is not a pro player, thus failing WP:ATHLETE. However, it mentions the national league in the infobox and in the "Senior" section, however is says Division 2. I don't understand Gaelic football, so I'm not sure if this is pro or not.
The references seem to be trivial mentions, so overall the subject's notability is in question here. Would like the opinions of those familiar with the sport. Lara 17:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Comment from nominator. I just read over Gaelic football and it reads "All Gaelic sports are amateur". So what does this mean for all these BLPs? Lara 18:41, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: Plays at the top level of his sport. Gaelic football and hurling are the national sports of Ireland and are not-professional in name only. Games can attract up to 83,000 spectators. See point 2 of here, it states "People who have competed at the highest amateur level of a sport". Article should be kept and recent Gaelic football and hurling articles that have been deleted should not have been. Derry Boi (talk) 18:43, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, I take your first point, but for the ones that were speedied, they didn't compete at the highest level. They were un-used subs. How are they notable? Lara 19:14, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Surely if they're in the squad they are notable? To use a soccer example...Corry Evans hasn't played a game for Manchester United yet, but is still notable enough for an article. Derry Boi (talk) 19:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually such articles are usually deleted if the player hasn't yet made a first-team appearance. I guess Evans lucks out because he's played for Northern Ireland.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 22:28, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep. The GAA is not (officially) professional but it is sure hugely relevant around Ireland. The player did make his first-team debut at the top level of the sport, so I'd say that he does meet the criteria. As a personal opinion, I'd remove the "championship appearances" section - it is OK now that he made three, but if he becomes an established player (as he seems to be on the way to become) it might become massive. But - let me repeat - this is only an opinion. McMarcoP (talk) 08:44, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[edited to clarify some points McMarcoP (talk) 08:45, 28 August 2009 (UTC)][reply]

- Keep. Top-level athlete so I can't see a reason to delete this one. --candle•wicke 19:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
