Announcement
  • Software Wikia is a wiki specialised on software using semantic extras. If a nice article does not have the required Wikipedia:Notability, simply export it and ask an admin for an import there.
  • WikiProject Free Software is now merged with WikiProject Software. The link to WikiProject Free Software is Wikipedia:WikiProject Software/Free Software.
  • To better serve Wikipedia, WikiProject Malware is now under the parent of WikiProject Computer Security. All Malware articles are currently being transferred over to the new project. In any case, you are welcome to join at WikiProject Computer Security!
  • All members of WikiProject Software are urged to install the Centralized Announcement System on their talk page.
  • I have changed the participant (members) table by replacing the Task column with Area of Expertise. I also introduced a new template based status system so as to "arrange" the members according to whether they are active, semi-active, inactive, or retired. Please update your entry accordingly.
  • New IRC server! The old channel on Freenode is not used anymore. See See here. Manual for using IRC can be found here for why. Find us at:

Inverse BYOD

[edit]

Hello,

Wrt http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bring_your_own_device, I noticed you nuked the "Inverse BYOD" aspects. Why?

From what I've seen its quite common to note the opposite / counter-solution in these Wiki articles.

K

Hi Kevin
"'Inverse BYOD'", the opposite of BYOD, is where the enterprise provides employees a user-managed device for Internet access, both for business and reasonable personal use. With inverse BYOD, the business provides general/open Internet connectivity (local WiFi to a commercial ISP and/or cellular service), denies them interior enterprise network access, imposes acceptable-use / behavior policies, and enforces relatively weak device security requirements.
If the primary reasons for adopting BYOD are to either cut costs or reward employees, then is this an opposite / counter-solution?
I also have a few doubts about the use of the phrase "Inverse BYOD" to describe this practice
The cited source of information, does not mention "Inverse BYOD" so I searched for it and Google shows only 850 hits for "Inverse BYOD" all of which were written after the phrase was introduced on Wikipedia - So could this be a original research?, or perhaps original nomenclature?
Most importantly the provisioning of separate infrastructure and/or separate devices for separate security zones is well known and doesn't (to my knowledge) attempt to address the problems that BYOD is supposed to solve. So probably best to set this up as a separate article or find a better home for it in another article.
Regards
Simon

You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service

[edit]

Hi SimonBramfitt! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over three years.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in three years or more.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|SimonBramfitt|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name subscribed to the FRS, you may be receiving this message on your new username's talk page still. If so, make sure your new account name is subscribed to the FRS, using the same procedure mentioned above.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you!
