editFrom Middle Persian or Parthian *ābrēk possibly via Classical Syriac ܐܒܪܝܩܐ (ʾaḇrēqā), attested as Classical Persian آبریز (ābrēz) from آب (âb, “water”) the present stem of the verb ریختن (rêxtan, “to pour”). Compare Northern Kurdish avrêjk (“ewer”).
