La nef centrale est dominée par la figure du Christ Pantocrator Longue de 102 mètres et large de 40 mètres, la basilique est divisée en trois nefs avec un transept et une abside dont les murs sont recouverts de mosaïques sur fond d'or illustrant l'Ancien Testament, la vie du Christ, les vies de différents Saints dont celles des Apôtres St Pierre et St Paul. ___________ La cathédrale de Monreale, l'abbaye bénédictine (au sud) et le palais royal (au nord) ont été construits à partir de 1172 sous le règne de Guillaume II, petit-fils de Roger II.
